Time Capsule

Dear diary,

I want to tell you that this year was one of my happiest year. Life was ordinary. The "extraordinariness"  came from obtaining internal peace. I have learned that no matter how the extraneous factors revolved, the most important thing in life is always constant. In all scenarios we are able to make a choice, whether it is to change the circumstance or to change our approach to the circumstance. I admitted that I have fears, quite a few actually….  yet at the same time I am determined to confront them. I've learned to dare myself out of my comfort zone and always always ALWAYS rely on Jehovah through the thick and thin.

When I was young, I looked up to my mother as role model. Flipping through photo albums, I was in awe in how fashionable she dressed, how beautiful her facial features were, but most of all how she was always surrounded by friends, some of whom remained close family friends down to this day.  I was so envious, because at that time my one and only friend was Milk, my guinea pig.

In time, I discovered that beauty is vain, but true friendship is invaluable. Today I am very fortunate to be surrounded by people who really want the best for each other. There are differences along the way of course. There are time when biding farewell, diverging in our own separate ways seemed like the only option. However, as we continue down the journey, the intersections merged, once again we are reunited on the narrow road. Much to our delight,  with gained wisdom and compassion, we proceeded toward the common destination, enjoying each other's company.

Looking back I am grateful for the storms, without them I might not have realized the need to change, grow and learn.
The world is only a mirror, if we smile at it, it will smile back.

This is my 2013.

                                                                   Love,
                                                                          Peony

As our Winter tradition, we spend a weekend in Harrison Hot Spring Resort. The trip was short and sweet. Here are some highlights.

Hosting November

One of the things that gives the most joy, is hosting gathering for my dearest friends. Due to limitation in space, and my cooking, only be a selected few are invited each time. But I tried my best to invite different ones each time.

Whenever there is a gathering, I face a dilemma, I wish I can be "Mary and Martha" at the same time if you know what I mean. I finally came up with a solution, pacing myself, and prepare the event several days in advance.

Following my "formula of success", although it was a six courses dinner, the preparation was relatively stress free. My glamorous friend Camilla suggested that we have a "soup" theme. My other guests were a little worried as to how many bowls of liquid they are required to consume. In the end, being as considerate as I am, only sample sizes of the three different  soups are given. Lisa made an impressive chicken chowder, Bon Bon and Ray contributed the delightful creme of mushroom. Camilla brought me the loveliest   bouquet of white roses.

Playing Sherlock Holmes, solving the mystery of " Giant Rat" ends the evening on a "frou frou chi chi" note as Camilla would like to put it.

I missed the opportunity to photograph my friends, but here are the food on the menu.

Blessing in Disguise.... While I was ill

It is not Winter yet, but the chills has already set in Vancouver this year. Although trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I still fell ill. Around this time of year, we are surrounded by three types of people, people already sick, starting to get sick and recovering patients who claimed they are "well enough".  Nonetheless,  I welcome this sudden interruption , devoting them to things I adore , "luxuries" that slipped off the daily agenda incomplete  I appreciate all forms of arts and would pursue them if this world is in perfect state. Yet at the moment there are focuses with greater preponderancy. It is really hard to strike a balance. For now culinary art seems the most "functional" and achievable of all arts ~
